Yoga at Climb Cleveland is based in the Ashtanga practice. The Ashtanga series of poses lend themselves to fitness from basic training to highly athletic powerful focused poses. These same words, athletic, powerful, focused, are the very words we use to describe climbing. Ashtanga is built around a defined and ordered series of poses. As you gain ability in the poses you have been taught more difficult poses are added a little bit at a time in a gradually lengthening stream of poses. The order sets up a series from easier poses to the more difficult to the seemingly impossible that you can practice on your own when you are not free to come to visit the studio.

 

The ashtanga series can be used in conjunction with other training by taking a slice from the Ashtanga series that compliments another kind of climbing workout. That way one can work on front levers while using a section from triangle to tree pose as an active resting period. For example a front lever workout needs a break between sets and the Ashtanga series can fill that break with complimentary body motions that relax the front lever muscle tension to reduce injury tendency and keep me from just sitting there.
