Moon Days

It has always been the tradition in Ashtanga Yoga to rest from our yoga practice on new and full moon days. On these days, the sun and the moon are in a line relative to the position of the earth. Consequently, their gravitational forces are all combined, and thus the effect of the planets is more pronounced.

During the new moon, there is a downward pull of energy, thus students are often too tired and heavy to practice. During the full moon, there is an upward pull of energy, thus students are flexible, lighter, but headstrong, so students are thought to be more prone to injury. 

In observance of this tradition, the studio will be closed on the following Full and New moon days for 2017.
